Ungeek.

Twenty years ago, I enjoyed participating in discussions and flame-wars on local computer bulletin board systems, or BBSes. Most of my non-computer-savvy family and friends didn't get it and thought I was being anti-social by spending a lot of time on the computer.

A few years later I got Internet access and transferred my participation to Usenet. The web had been invented, but it was only in use by a few physicists perhaps, and was far short of being 'world wide'. I was getting excited about the potential for the Internet, but the same people continued to not get it.

Fast forward, present day. What a reversal! The same people, they are now the ones who figuratively twisted my arm recently, to get me to join one of the major social networking web sites they are now all members of... !

The irony!

But, I'm just glad they get it now!

Geek is the new black, I guess. Look at Heroes and the impact of comic con on the entertainment industry.

Thank the people who tried to idiot-proof every technological system known to man. Every 8-year-old child has a cellphone with mp3 downloading capabilities, web-surfing and video streaming, even before they learn their times tables.

However, I think you can thank pioneers like Apple for dumbing it down to the point where your average household pet can order online.

Just my two cents.
